Mathematics

The ability to demonstrate proficiency in mathematics requires the learner to attend to five components:

1. Conceptual Understanding- Do I make connections and know why I perform an operation?

2. Procedural Fluency- Am I solving using the most effective and efficient strategy?

3. Strategic Competence- I can represent and solve this problem!

4. Adaptive Reasoning- How can I approach this problem differently?

5. Productive Disposition- I have the ability to learn math!

These components address the foundational learning aspects that enable students to grow and enhance their math. By focusing on these strands of mathematics for teaching and learning, we strive to address the "why" of math so students know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it- learners become "doers of math." With us, math instruction is engaging; we use manipulatives (math tools) and dialogue rich instruction to model our thinking for students!

We equip our learners with strategies that foster independence and critical thinking. Our goal is for the student to adequately demonstrate all five areas of math proficiency and become confident, independent doers of math. Subject tutoring is ideal for all abilities and ages; it appropriately supports, enhances, and challenges a student so that the learner may excel towards one's potential.
